The code is read in the order of length + micron rating + end cap. Example: 30CHT-5-6FNS = 30-inch length, 5 micron, 222 fin end cap. A depth cartridge (CHT) keeps the cost of a high dirt load low thanks to its graded pore structure; it is economical for pre-filtration and general industrial lines. A pleated cartridge (Megapleat, MP-CHT, POLYFIL PP) offers much greater filter area within the same housing volume; when the dirt load is low but the flow rate is high, it extends cartridge life and reduces the change-out frequency. On lines with both a high dirt load and a high flow rate, the two are used in series: first the depth cartridge, then the pleated cartridge.
